@@Greeting from the Chairman

The Academy of Clinical Dentistry (NPO)

Dr. Hideaki Ueda, President

Thank you for your interest in the 37th annual meeting of the Academy of Clinical Dentistry (ACD). I am honored to chair the meeting as the 14th president. First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, the members of ACD, for your continuous cooperation that has made this academic community keep running.

We uphold this yearfs meeting with a theme of gClinical dentistry forefront of True Gnathology: Aiming for constructing a bright future of the dental industryh. This theme derives from our five-year agenda eTrue Gnathology,f stipulated last year in order to have our members put utmost effort in understanding and clinically applying the quintessence of gnathology and occlusal studies, and communicate sincerity of ACD with patients-as the patients were to evaluate the outcomes of treatment.

There remains much work to be done regarding the relationship between systemic and oral functions: e.g., eoral frailty,f a longitudinal association between poor oral health and general health. Also, as the current dental industry has been highly specialized, clinical dental professionals need to acquire broad knowledge to lead proper comprehension of patients. To meet the requests and expectations of patients, training up dentists amongst the members is necessary. I am especially looking forward to the younger ACD members leading the next generation of dentistry.

This annual meeting is actually a great opportunity to gain insights on your clinical practice. We will welcome Prof. Bach Le of University of Southern California School of Dentistry to deliver special speeches, organize a public forum where unregistered visitors can also attend, and offer various useful lectures covering a broad range of the clinical dentistry topics from latest clinical technology to the role of dentistry in the super-aging society. Saturday June 22nd, the first day of the meeting especially features esports dentistryf relevant to Rugby World Cup 2019 that will be held in Japan. The topics on Sunday are eDentistry for self-reliance support: Restoring occlusion of the elderly in need of nursing caref in the morning, and eBuilding the ability to eat: Changing dementia and bedridden situationsf in the afternoon. Table Clinic sessions focus on basic dental treatment targeting at young clinicians as usual. Our list of lecturers includes up-and-coming young dentists as well as prominent professors so that attendants can broaden their horizons with diverse perspectives.

Participation in the academic meeting of ACD, one of the biggest clinical dental associations in Japan is a rare opportunity to expose yourself to such a broad range of information and ideas in the field. Aside from listening to prominent doctors for their knowledge and skills, active involvement in discussions and poster presentations helps developing your insight and then nurtures better clinical practices because it brings objective consideration of the significance of dentistry and the meaning of attending academic meetings.

Now in the dental community ever more dynamic have been the collaborative work and communication between basic research and clinical practice, clinical practitioner and research institute, dentistry and medicine-amongst various study groups. Also, we are observing increasing importance of collaborative work with medicine, communication with the regulatory authorities, provision of information to the media, etc. Therefore, the role each fellow member needs to assume may be expanded, requiring awareness and determination among all involved in dentistry to make an improvement in the industry. The Academy of Clinical Dentistry has its own role of leading the whole community, beyond each otherfs stance, to cooperate each other in one and the same direction: creating a bright future of the industry.

Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to the directors of ACD, the program committees, and the secretariats for their two-year-long dedication in realizing this meeting. All the committee members including myself are very much looking forward to welcoming your participation at the meeting. See you at Tokyo International Forum.
